The Kaneland Arts Initiative is the new name for the organization formerly known as the Kaneland Community Fine Arts Festival (KCFAF).
In 1998, two art teachers in the Kaneland asked a question, “What if?”
What if we show the students in our school what a professional artist does?
And that question led to … What if we could bring professional artists to Kaneland instead of hoping those in our rural community can make it to Chicago to experience the Arts?
Which led to … Can we host a fine arts festival to bring the professional Arts to the Kaneland Community?
And the answer from the Kaneland Superintendent was a resounding YES, WE CAN!
Since 1998, the Kaneland Arts Initiative has brought the Kaneland Community Fine Arts Festival, a one day, 7 hour festival that celebrates the Arts with professional artists to the Kaneland High School Campus. What started with a simple question, has led to a long and rich history of Arts in the Kaneland school district and community.
Now, the Kaneland Arts Initiative provides Arts programming and events year round to the Kaneland students, families, and community and beyond!
We believe in encouraging people’s involvement in, appreciation of, and support for artistic endeavors and fostering the development of artistic abilities.
- Bring professional artists to the Festival in order to expose our communities to the fine arts
- Stimulate higher quality art education in our schools
- Inspire fine art educators to promote, plan, and host an annual fine arts festival
- Act as a means for students and their families to come to a better understanding and appreciation of a fine arts education
- Encourage local business to provide financial support for the arts in the communities
A Festival For ALL… our humble beginnings
In 1998, the Kaneland School District conceived and presented its first Fine Arts Festival, a celebration of the arts which strives to encourage young peoples involvement in artistic endeavors and to challenge them to develop their abilities. The Kaneland Community Fine Arts Festival (KCFAF) is one of just a handful of public school art festivals in the State of Illinois. The event combines student and professional visual artists, hands-on workshops, and professional performing artists and groups. The festival annually draws approximately 3,000 students, families, and community members for a day of culture and fun.
KAI Performance Series
The KAI Performance Series was created to provide a showcase of the performing arts in 2010. The KAI Performance Series provides the Kaneland Community the opportunity to see full length, professional quality performances at an affordable price. Ticket prices for these performances range from $8 – $10 and some performances include the popular Family Ticket for $25. With the purchase of a Family Ticket, all family members currently living in one household can attend.
An Award-Winning Organization
Recently, the KCFAF was awarded the Illinois Alliance for Arts Education (IAAE) 2010 Public and Community Service Award. Every year, the IAAE recognizes various individuals and orgnizations throughout Illinois for their dedicated service or promotion of arts in Illinois schools. In 2007, the Festival was awarded the Distinguished Service Award of Merit by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA).
